Charlie Shrem, Founder of Crypto.IQ: The OG Stories of Crypto
- Charlie Shrem's early life in Brooklyn included a religious Orthodox upbringing before discovering Bitcoin around 2011 through IRC chat rooms, which resonated with his desire for financial independence outside traditional systems.
- He founded BitInstant in 2011 with Gareth Nelson to make Bitcoin purchases easier by holding Mt. Gox accounts and transferring Bitcoin to customers who deposited fiat, growing to tens of thousands of dollars in daily volume.
